The world opens up. This is the release that lays down the world map — the backbone every later version builds on for where you travel and what you take on next.

Your journey finally has a shape. Instead of picking fights from a list, you now travel a map that lays out the regions in front of you and frames which challenge comes next. It is a milestone release: the map is the foundation the game grows on from here, and everything that follows — new regions, quests, and the way you move between them — hangs off it.
